Autumn Concert 2011 - Von Stewart - Musical Critique

Monday 7th November 2011

OUR wonderful Kidderminster Male Choir always provide superb entertainment but they really excelled themselves at their Autumn concert, with no less than six new numbers to their repertoire.

The highlights in the first half were a wonderful new arrangement of the only good song in Miss Saigon - the beautiful Bui- Doi and a fabulous Memory, from Cats.

Peter Kay really started something a few years ago, the capacity audience joining in Amarillo enthusiastically to end the first half of the programme.

In the second half were such delights as When the Boat Comes In, Alan Patterson having helped the choir to sing with a Tyneside accent and a great The Lion Sleeps Tonight, featuring John Watkins and Sam Whitehouse on bongos, the latter really ‘playing to the crowd’.

The men in red demonstrated their histrionic abilities in What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor (at least I think they were acting!) and we heard the short, but oh so sweet, Anthem from Chess, which was superbly performed. There were solo spots by Sam Whitehouse, Malcolm Horwood and Peter Burns, further demonstrating the wealth of talent in KMC. The official ending to the programme was the Battle Hymn of the Republic, which would have been better without the brass! However the choir sent us home with the strains of Cwm Rhondda as an encore, after another great evening at Kidderminster Town Hall

Tour Tribute from Liam Daly - Ireland

Tuesday 21st June 2011

I HAD the privilege to perform with the Kidderminster Male Choir(KMC) at a concert on 11th June 2011 in Lismore Cathedral, County Waterford, Ireland.

Your choir were doing a series of performances as part of their Ireland tour.

To a capacity audience they not only sang with such beauty, they brought great happiness and humour that had people so energised leaving the concert that I felt I had to write to you and express my sincerest thanks to Kidderminster for sending us a treasure from your community.

This choir and their travelling party are a credit to you.

Again, thank you Kidderminster for allowing KMC to enrich our lives.

Alveley Church 27th Feb

Tuesday 1st March 2011

We visited Alveley Church for a recent concert. What a beautiful venue and what fantastic acoustics. The choir were in good voice and appeared to be appreciated by the large audience, many of whom indicated that this was the first time they had heard this choir sing. Quite a number indicated that they would be visiting Kidderminster Town Hall for our Spring Concert on the 9th April to hear us again. Many joined us at the Three Horseshoes Inn at Alveley where we settled for our "afterglow". We were made to feel welcomed by both locals and the audience members who joined us there. We hope to return to this venue in the future.

This is a new website which we have produced in association with Citizen Media of Kidderminster and we are very grateful for their help, advice and counsel in developing the site concept.

We hope that it is more informative, less formal and certainly more up to date. We have added a reviews page for comment by our followers and audiences. We encourage contributions which we shall publish unedited on the site.
